Guru Rama Suresh : Nattuvangam

The art of conducting an Indian dance recital is known is as nattuvangam. The conductor is known as the nattuvanar. To provide the beat structure (Thalam) for the performance, the nattuvanar plays a small set of cymbals and recites Solkattu (spoken rhythmic patterns). Guru Rama Suresh learned Nattuvangam (the art of conducting a classical Indian dance recital) from mridangam maestro Karaikudi Krishnamurthy who hails from Kalakshetra.

Kaushik Champakesan: Lead Vocalist

Professionally trained Carnatic vocalist and percussionist, Kaushik started learning mridangam at the age of 12 under the guidance of Nanganallur Swaminathan. Kaushik then developed a keen interest in vocal carnatic music and learnt the art from Smt. Padma Sandilyan. He is presently under the tutelage of Sri A.S.Murali. In his career, Kaushik has given several live performances in sabhas in India and Abroad which have been critically acclaimed. He has also accompanied many eminent dancers in the field of Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Mohini Attam on vocal and nattuvangam and has travelled to countries like the U.S.A., Australia, Switzerland, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and Srilanka for his performances.

Rewards and Recognition

  •  Was awarded the title “GANAMRUTHA RATNA” in the year 2006

  •  Was awarded the title “ISAI SELVAN” in the year 2009

  •  Won the First Prize in Vijay TV’s Paadum Office (Classical Solo) in 2007

  •  Won the first prize in “CORPORATE MUSIC 2005” and “2006” consecutively conducted    by“Big Deal Media” (Classical Solo)

Vijayaraghavan Govindachary: Mridangam - Percussion (Indian Drum)

He is the Disciple of Madurai T. Srinivasan and Kumbakonam T. V. Balu. He has been honoured by the PRESIDENT of India three times.  He has performed frequently on All India Radio and at the Radio Sangeet Sammelan festivals.  He has accompanied prominent Bharatanatyam dancers in venues around the world.  Critics have hailed his playing as an  integral, entertaining component of these events. He has awarded the title of LAYA KALA VIPANCHEE from the Music Legend Dr. M. BALAMURALIKRISHNA. And also received Dr. Sudharani Ragupathy endowment award by Narada gana sabha. He also has a rare gift for writing poetry and lyrics for Bharathanatyam. He has released a CD and published a book, NRITYA GANA RUDHAM.

KP Nandini: Violin

K.P. Nandini, disciple of Smt.Lalitha Raghavan for violin and Smt.Ranjani Gayatri for vocal , is an 'A' grade artist of All India radio for both violin and vocal. She is also the daughter and disciple of Smt.Uma Prabhakar who is one among the singing duo, Mayavaram sisters.

 

She is a central government scholarship holder in both fields and is the recipient of titles such as 'Yuva Kala bharati' '/Gaana sarasawathi' / 'Kalaimani'/ ' Bala kala rathna' etc. She is the title winner of the carnatic reality show 'Tanishq Swarna sangeetham' conducted by Raj TV and was awarded a cash prize of 5 lakhs and the title ' Golden voice of the season'.

 

She has had the rare privelege of performing before the president of India Dr.APJ Abdul kalam at Rashtrapathi Bhavan and in the August presence of the princess of Spain. She has extensively toured US and Europe for performances in both capacities.
